Here are sample Scope and Sequence documents that may give you a starting place in year-long planning or spark some new ideas to add to your curriculum. These grade-level studies are built around universal themes. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to read these two articles about long-term planning for gifted students:

Please consider sharing your great ideas and resources by commenting on any blog post or even sharing a lesson as a guest blogger. We all take ideas and “make them our own” by tweaking them, revising them, and adding to them. Many subscribers here are brand new G/T teachers and would benefit immensely from hearing about your ideas. Also, if you have TPT products you’ve created especially for gifted or advanced learners, we’d love to know about them!
These themed units are great. I sure wish you had a sixth grade one.
Glenda, I appreciate that feedback. I do think that these themes are all easily adaptable to 6th grade. I’ve used many of the ideas in classes up to 8th grade. Universal themes are very adaptable when it comes to content and skill level. Perhaps I can work on this at some point! Thanks for your comment.
