Summer Share and Tell ~ Better than a Book Study?

I considered it a compliment when a colleague said to me, “You not only seek out professional development, you always take something you learn, even if it’s only one small thing, and try to incorporate it somehow into what you are already doing with your students.” I guess I’m what you call an “action researcher”- I love testing things out with students!

I am a big believer in ongoing professional development, especially self-selected, self-guided PD that’s motivated by a desire to impact students in a positive way. The Big Ideas Facebook group began as a summer book study and my hope is to keep the main focus on professional growth through conversations. So this summer, I thought it would be fun to try something different.

I have a diverse library, and maybe you do, too. Sometimes I feel my brain is a mashup of a million takeaways. And if you’ve taught a while, you’ve no doubt seen a few ideas from days gone by, recycled and reinvented for the 21st century.

So, in a SUMMER SHARE AND TELL, the plan is to start conversations related to:

  • takeaways from books and PD that have impacted our teaching (and how)
  • open-ended questions that allow us to learn from one another
  • planning, creating, tweaking, and assessing

If this sounds like something you’d like to be a part of, definitely join the Facebook group which is where this will be happening! Hope to see you there!
